Rice

Rice is a traditional grain that is  popular in Sri Lanka because of its nutritional value. It is our staple food. It is called 'Bath' in Sinhala and 'Soru' in Tamil.  Carbohydrates, fat, dietary fiber and vitamin B are all present in abundance in rice. We can made string hoppers, hoppers, pittu and roti using rice. In Sri Lanka  it is grown in Kurunegala, Ampara, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. It grows best in an environment about 1900mm an annual temperature range of 21 Celsius   to 32 Celsius and a soil of pH range of 5.0-8.0. It is a crop that has great potential if promoted as a healthy food.
